Vouliagmeni: first day at school For once we start school in Vouliagmeni on a Monday. in fact, what elsewhere is called “starting school”, is just a sort of a “touch base with reality” issue in Greece. On the first day of a new school year, you meet with your class mates, align in front of the school, get the popes blessing, some nice words from the major, and some organizational directives from the principal. After that, which takes about 1 hour (of which the pope monopolizes 60%), you are free and off to the nearby park where parents have coffee and kids exchange their MSN addresses, facebook links and other really more important info than school can ever provide. The Pope with some important lessons … Coming back from far away and having been graduating from an American High School, this scene inspires for sure a lesson the Pope did not intend to teach
